The local area is world famous for Sherwood Forest, the legendary home of Robin Hood and his band of outlaws. Four hundred acres of ancient woodland have been set aside as a country park, with visitor centre, picnic areas, adventure playground, walks and bridlepaths.
Nearby Newark-on-Trent was a Royalist stronghold during the Civil War and withstood three sieges. Newark Castle, built in the 12th century, still stands imposingly overlooking the River Trent. The Castle Grounds make a splendid setting for picnics.
The charming market town of Southwell has a beautiful Norman Minster dating back to the 12th century. If horse racing is your passion, be sure to visit Southwell Racecourse, one of the few all-weather courses in the country.
Enjoy a peaceful walk along the riverside at Newark, or at one of several country parks in the surrounding area. Rufford Country Park and Clumber Park are ideal for a day out, bicycles can be hired both there and Sherwood Pines.
Rufford Golf Club is just a short drive from us and has an eighteen hole course and a driving range.
Families with young children may enjoy a lovely day out at one of several Farm Parks nearby.
